An initial priority of all newly acquired marina facilities is to secure the Department of Environmental Protection’s (DEP) Clean MarinaTM status. On October 20, 2001, in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection Southeast District designated the Seven Kings facility at Frenchman’s Marina, now Loggerhead Club & Marina – Palm Beach Gardens, as a Clean Marina, the first such designation in the state of Florida.

Florida is home to over 800,000 registered boaters, and an additional estimated 400,000 boats visit our waters annually. Clean water is essential to the multibillion-dollar marine industry and critical for protecting sensitive habitats, manatees, sea turtles, and other aquatic wildlife. The effects of year-round boating activities contribute to constant and growing pressure on Florida’s fragile aquatic ecosystems. The Clean Marina designation recognizes marinas that are operating their facilities in an environmentally conscientious manner.

The Clean Marina Program was developed by a partnership that includes the DEP, Marine Industries Association, the Florida Sea Grant Program, and the United States Coast Guard. In order to receive the Clean Marina designation, marinas must comply with all environmental regulations and meet Clean Marina criteria. Clean Marina facilities adopt safeguards that help keep solvents, sewage, and fuel out of the water, while protecting manatees and other creatures that live in the water. The Clean Marina designation gives boaters a recognizable and environmentally sound choice for their service and mooring needs. All 11 Loggerhead Club & Marina-branded marinas are currently designated as Clean Marina facilities.
